Entry-level 4-inch printer succeeding the ZT220
Zebra designated the ZT111 as the successor to the ZT220, which it discontinued on June 27, 2022. Its maximum speed at 203 dpi is 254 mm per second, faster than the ZT220's 152 mm per second, and it holds a 450 m ribbon roll instead of the ZT220's 300 m.
The printer has a metal frame with a plastic housing and weighs 7.7 kg. The cover folds twice as it opens, so you can change media without much clearance above the 279 mm tall printer.

Speed is adjusted in 25.4 mm (1 in) steps. Older EPL formats run only on the 203 dpi model; the 300 dpi model must be sent ZPL II formats. How to choose a resolution is covered separately in 203 dpi vs. 300 dpi.
Standard ports and add-on cards
USB 2.0, RS-232 serial, 10/100 Ethernet, USB host, and Bluetooth LE come built in. Wireless LAN is added later with an 802.11ac Wi-Fi card, and a second wired network with a 10/100 Ethernet card. Serial connections use a null-modem cable no longer than 15.24 m.
The control panel consists of three buttons (PAUSE, FEED, CANCEL) and five status lights. There is no display. If you want to change settings while viewing a menu screen, the ZT231 with its 4.3-inch color touch display is more convenient.
Media and ribbon specifications and cutter conditions
Media can be 19.4-114 mm wide and 0.076-0.25 mm thick. The roll limit is 203 mm OD on a 76 mm core and 152 mm OD on a 25 mm core. Ribbons are 51-110 mm wide and 450 m long on a 25.4 mm core.
The shortest printable label length is 18 mm for tear-off, 13 mm for peel, and 25 mm for the cutter. The cutter is a front-mounted guillotine type, and the peel option dispenses labels one at a time without a liner take-up. The cutter module is the only part that needs lubrication.
