216 mm, the widest print width in the Xi4 series
The 220Xi4 is the Xi4 model that prints up to 216 mm (8.5 in) wide. It takes media 108-224 mm wide including the liner, and ribbons 108-220 mm wide. Top speed is 10 ips (254 mm/s) at 203 dpi and 6 ips (152 mm/s) at 300 dpi, and continuous media prints continuously up to 3,810 mm at both resolutions.
Manufacturer support remaining until 2031
Zebra's last sale date for the 220Xi4 was February 27, 2026. Although support for the 110Xi4, 140Xi4, and 170Xi4 in the same Xi4 series ended in 2023 (Asia-Pacific 2025), the end of service and support date for the 220Xi4 is February 27, 2031.
The manufacturer-designated successor is the ZT620. The ZT620's maximum print width is 168 mm, and it accepts media up to 180 mm wide. Layouts printed wider than 168 mm on the 220Xi4, or media wider than 180 mm, cannot move over as they are, so reset media width to 180 mm or less and layout width to 168 mm or less before switching.
220Xi4 upper media sensor position
On other Xi4 models, the upper media sensor can be placed anywhere from the inner side of the media (toward the rear frame of the unit) to the outer side, but on the 220Xi4 it is placed only within the inner section. For tag media that uses notches or holes to locate labels, order a specification with the notches or holes punched on the inner side of the media.
- If a ribbon is in use, remove it first.
- Find the upper media sensor adjustment screw. The sensor eye is directly below the screw head.
- Loosen the adjustment screw with a thin flat-blade screwdriver and slide the sensor along the slot to directly above the notch or hole.
- Tighten the adjustment screw to secure it, and align the lower media sensor to the same position as the upper sensor.
Media thickness the cutter can cut
The upper limit of media thickness the cutter option cuts is 0.14 mm on the 220Xi4, the thinnest among Xi4 models. With the same cutter, the 110Xi4 and 140Xi4 cut up to 0.23 mm and the 170Xi4 up to 0.18 mm, so on the 220Xi4, tags thicker than 0.14 mm are not cut with the cutter but taken by tear-off or rewind.
