Speed and USB port changes from the 105SL
The 203 dpi top speed of the Zebra 4-inch industrial printer 105SLPlus is 12 ips (305 mm/s), higher than the 8 ips upper limit of the 105SL setting range. The 300 dpi printhead runs up to 9 ips (229 mm/s), and a USB 2.0 port, which the 105SL did not have, comes standard.
It was sold until April 2, 2018, almost 5 years later than the 105SL, and sales in the Asia-Pacific region stopped on December 31, 2019. The manufacturer's end of support date is March 31, 2025 for Asia-Pacific and May 2, 2023 for other regions. The manufacturer-designated successor, as for the 105SL, is the ZT510.
Print servers that take the place of the parallel port
RS-232 serial, USB 2.0, and 8-bit bidirectional parallel ports are standard. Installing a wired Ethernet or wireless print server takes the place of the parallel port, so if a PC is connected by parallel cable, move it to USB or LAN before installing the server.
User guides in Korean and English and drivers are on the 105SLPlus download page. Cable length limits are 15.24 m for serial, 5 m for USB, and 3 m for parallel. Plugging a USB cable into the wired Ethernet connector damages the connector, so remove the factory-installed plug only when connecting a LAN cable.
First dot position and position accuracy on the 300 dpi model
The nominal first dot position from the inner edge of the media is 2.5 mm for the 203 dpi printhead and 0.6 mm for the 300 dpi printhead, both with a ±0.9 mm tolerance. The nominal positions differ by 1.9 mm, so when moving a layout made for 203 dpi to the 300 dpi model, readjust the left margin.
Label position accuracy is ±1.5 mm both vertically and horizontally, and the gap between labels is set to 2 mm or more and no more than the calibrated label length. Continuous media prints continuously up to 3,810 mm at 203 dpi.
Higher 300 dpi speed when moving to the ZT510
The 203 dpi top speed is 305 mm/s on both models, so line speed stays the same. At 300 dpi, speed rises 25 mm per second, from 229 mm/s on the 105SLPlus to 254 mm/s on the ZT510. The 104 mm print width and 20-110 mm ribbon width are the same. However, the ZT510 accepts label gaps up to 4 mm and media thickness up to 0.30 mm, so labels with gaps wider than 4 mm are changed to a specification that fits the ZT510.
