The 105SL, which connected by serial and parallel with no USB
The 105SL is a 4-inch industrial printer whose sales Zebra ended on June 28, 2013 (Asia-Pacific June 30). Manufacturer service and support ended on September 30, 2018, and the designated successor is the ZT510.
The unit has two ports, RS-232C serial (DB9) and IEEE 1284 bidirectional parallel, and no USB port. When a network was needed, a ZebraNet 10/100 print server (internal or external) or an 802.11b wireless print server was added separately. The external 10/100 print server is a Class B device approved only for residential, commercial, and light industrial environments. Continuous print length and registration by resolution
The length printed continuously without a break on continuous media is 2,286 mm with the 203 dpi printhead and 1,041 mm with the 300 dpi printhead. Switching to 300 dpi shortens this limit to less than half, so print long continuous labels on the 203 dpi model.
Label registration is ±1.3 mm both vertically and horizontally on media with gaps or notches. The gap between labels is 2 mm minimum and 3 mm reference, and at the widest it accepts up to twice the calibrated label length plus 25.4 mm.
114 mm print width on roll media and the ZT510's 104 mm
The 105SL prints up to 114 mm wide on roll media and up to 104 mm on folded fanfold media. The successor ZT510's maximum print width is 104 mm, so layouts drawn wider than 104 mm for 105SL roll media are cut off at the edges on the ZT510. For ribbons as well, the 105SL takes up to 114 mm wide, while the ZT510 takes up to 110 mm.
Option combinations that cannot be used together
The cutter catch tray and the internal fanfold media bin cannot be installed together with the rewind or peel option. The cutter cuts media up to 0.229 mm thick, and labels that are cut must be at least 38 mm long.
Firmware that accepts the Intermec command language (APL-I) or the Datamax command language (APL-D) instead of ZPL was also available as an option. When replacing a 105SL that ran this firmware, first check whether the new model accepts the same command language.
