The OX10 is the model among M3 Mobile's 3.5-inch keypad Windows Embedded mobile computers that could hold an HF (13.56 MHz) or UHF (868-956 MHz) RFID reader in the unit. It is included with the BK10 in M3 Mobile's end of life (EOL) notice, so this page focuses on telling OX10 versions apart and on battery and RFID operation for units in use.

Specification differences between the OX10 and OX10 1G

The OX10 has a version with a Cortex-A8 833 MHz processor and the OX10 1G with a 1 GHz processor. Memory and wireless specifications differ depending on which one you have.

Both versions use a 3.7 V 3,300 mAh smart battery and 31-key alphanumeric or 50-key QWERTY keypads, with IP65 sealing. The 50-key QWERTY on the OX10 1G is only on Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 models. Weight is 332 g for models without RFID, 362 g for HF models, and 389 g for UHF models.

HF and UHF RFID modules and dedicated programs

The OX10 1G HF reader reads ISO 14443 A/B, ISO 15693, ISO 18000-3, and I-CODE tags, with 1 or 2 SAM slots as an option. The UHF reader is for EPC C1 G2 tags. RfidEmul, a keyboard wedge program that enters read tags directly into input fields, works only with the HF module; the UHF module does not support RfidEmul. RfidEmul and the test program RF_ID_Demo do not run at the same time.

11-hour battery and cradle charging

A fully charged OX10 (833 MHz) runs up to 11 hours, and actual time varies with the work environment. Charging a depleted battery in the standard cradle takes about 4 hours; the charge LED is red while charging and green when full. When the unit and a spare battery are both in the cradle, it charges the unit's battery first, and the snap-on charger cannot charge spare batteries. M3 Mobile recommends replacing batteries after 2 years of use.

Moving RFID work to Android

If UHF tag work must continue, also look at the DS5A-UHF, an Android model with built-in UHF RFID. Input flows built with the Windows RfidEmul and ScanEmul must be rebuilt on Android, so to decide whether to keep repairing or to switch based on the equipment's condition, contact Wooju OA (info@woojuoa.co.kr, +82-2-703-0332).
