The Xenon XP 1950g is a corded handheld 2D scanner available in three focus models: SR, HD, and UD. Very fine codes such as 2 mil Code 39 or 4 mil QR are read only by the UD model, which reads 2 mil Code 39 at 20-60 mm.
It is designed for stores that read both product barcodes at the checkout and codes on customers' smartphone screens. The imager is 1280 x 800 pixels, and 13 mil UPC codes are read while moving at 400 cm per second at optimal focus.

At a checkout that reads only regular product barcodes, the SR reads 13 mil UPC up to 490 mm. 5 mil Data Matrix is read only by the HD and UD, not by the SR.
The UD focuses on small codes at the cost of shorter range on large codes, so its maximum 13 mil UPC range is 190 mm, less than half that of the SR. For sites that read both 5 mil Data Matrix on parts and regular products, the HD is the right fit: it reads 5 mil at 45-100 mm and still reaches 368 mm on 13 mil UPC.
Behavior when placed in a stand
When the 1950g is placed in a stand, the in-stand sensor detects it and switches to streaming presentation mode. In this mode, it keeps searching for codes with the illumination on; when lifted out of the stand, it returns to trigger-to-read operation.
The in-stand sensor is on in the factory default settings. Streaming presentation comes in two modes, Normal and Enhanced; Enhanced increases speed at the cost of slightly shorter working range.
POS interfaces and housing ratings
There are four interfaces: USB, keyboard wedge, RS-232, and RS485 for TGCS (IBM) 46XX POS. The housing is rated IP52 and designed for 50 drops from 1.8 m to concrete and 2,000 tumbles at 0.5 m.
The operating temperature is 0-50°C, so it is not intended for below-freezing areas. It weighs 147.42 g and comes in two colors, black and Lyric White, and some models come with a housing that can be wiped frequently with disinfectants.
The next-generation Xenon Ultra 1960g uses the same cables as the 1950g. However, RS485 (IBM 46XX) is not in the 1960g interface list, so for a 1950g connected to an IBM POS, confirm the connection method with us before replacing it.
