The Genesis XP 7680g is a presentation 2D scanner that stands on the checkout counter and reads items or phone screens held in front of it. The scanner measures 80 x 40 x 105 mm and is 145 mm tall with the stand attached, so it takes up little counter space.
Object detection distance and illumination behavior
The 7680g uses infrared to detect an object placed in front of it and starts reading. The default Short Range setting responds to items about 15 cm away; switching to Mid Range makes it respond to items about 23 cm away.
The 7680g turns its illumination fully off between reads, so light does not keep shining toward the customer. A 360° three-color LED ring around the scanner shows the scan position and read result, and the illumination is warm white.
Switching the detection method to Enhanced keeps the illumination on while searching for codes, which increases sensitivity. This setting works only in presentation mode (TRGMOD3).

All codes are read from 0 mm, touching the window, so items can be held right up against the front of the scanner. The imager is 1280 x 800 pixels (1MP), and 13 mil UPC codes are read while moving at 400 cm per second at optimal focus.
Scan module, stand, and cable configurations
The 7680g comes in three configurations.
- The scan module alone (80 x 40 x 105 mm) is a replacement that keeps using the previous model's cable, or is for mounting in kiosks and accessories.
- The scan module with an adjustable-angle stand is 145 mm tall and sits on the counter; the stand can be removed later.
- The full kit adds either a USB cable or an RS-232 cable, plus a power adapter, to the module and stand.
When the 7680g module is built into a kiosk, its flat front face sits flush with the panel and the cable is hidden in the rear port. The 360° three-color LED ring can be left exposed outside the kiosk or hidden inside it.
Mounting accessories and compatible cables
Wall mount, POS mount, and vertical mount accessories are available separately, and the scanner can also be installed with the window facing down. It is compatible with existing Genesis 7580g cables, so sites switching from the 7580g do not need to buy new cables.
Interfaces are USB, RS-232, and keyboard wedge. The scanner is rated IP52, operates at 0-50°C, and is designed for 50 drops from 1.5 m and 1,000 tumbles at 0.5 m. The beeper is 90 dB at 10 cm.
